Trong Tiếng Anh đảo ngữ dùng:
*Đặt câu hỏi: Do you?, Can you?
*Các dạng khác ( trong các câu có so, neither, nor...)
1. Sau các cụm từ mang nghĩa phủ định:
-Under no circumstances can we accept cheques ( Chúng tôi không chấp nhận séc dưới mọi hình thức)
-In no way can he be held responsible ( không đời nào anh ấy chịu trách nhiệm)
-At no time did he say he would come ( Chưa bao giờ anh ấy nói anh ấy sẽ đến)
2. Sau các cụm từ chỉ nơi chốn
-Round the corner came postman (Người đưa thư suất hiện ở góc phố)
-On the doorstep was a bunch of flower ( trước thềm cửa có một bó hoa)
3. Sau những từ như seldom, rarely hoặc never, trong các dạng so sánh
-Seldom have I seem such a beautiful view ( Hiến khi tôi gặp một cảnh đẹp như vậy)
-Rarely did he pay anyone a compliment ( Chẳng bao giờ anh ta khen trả ai)
-Never had I felt so happy ( Tôi chưa bao giờ cảm thấy quá vui)
4. Sau hardly, scarcely, no sooner, khi một sự việc xảy ra sau 1 sự việc khác
-Hardly had I begun to speak when I was interrupted ( Tôi đã bắt đầu khó khăn khi bị gián đoạn)
-Scarcely had we started our meal when the phone ran
-No sooner had I arrived then they all started to argue
5. Sau các cụm từ bắt đầu bằng 'only'
-Only after the meeting did I realize the importance of the subject
6. Sau câu cảm thán với here và there
-Here comes the winner ( Đây là người chiến thắng)
-There goes all our money!
7. Trong câu điều kiện loại 3 và 2
-Were I you, I would go to Janpan
-Had I gone to shool
